27-Year-Old Driver Killed in Box-Truck Accident near Friars Road

SAN DIEGO, CA (August 19, 2022) – Early Wednesday morning, Joseph Pajares Estrella was killed in a high-speed collision on Interstate 15.

Shortly before 1:00 a.m., police responded to the scene near Friars Road.

Investigators say Estrella was driving a Toyota sedan north on the highway at high rates of speed when he veered right.

There, he rear-ended a box-truck that was stopped on the eastern shoulder due to a flat tire. Medics arrived and pronounced 27-year-old Estrella, of San Diego dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old male driver of the box truck, from Spring Valley sustained minor injuries. Per reports, he was standing outside of the vehicle that was pushed into him upon impact. Although, authorities have not yet released his name.

Crews closed the surrounding area for a brief time during cleanup and preliminary duties before it was later reopened. At this time, an active investigation to determine further details is still currently underway.
