Merced County DUI Crash Left Joseph Lewis Hospitalized

MERCED, CA (October 19, 2021) Joseph Lewis suffered major injuries following a DUI two-car crash last Sunday afternoon.

Officers responded to the incident around 1:45 p.m. in the area of 3rd Avenue and Edminster Road, west of Stevinson.

Upon arrival, the CHP determined that an eastbound 2002 Dodge Caravan struck a 2000 GMC Sierra going southbound on Edminster.

As a result, the GMC overturned and left the Dodge driver with major injuries.

Later on, the injured victim was identified as 50-year-old Joseph Lewis of Turlock.

Meanwhile, the GMC driver did not sustain injuries and authorities later arrested him for DUI.

The authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Mario Alberto Hernandez of Stevinson.

According to the Merced County Jail record, he remained in custody on Monday in lieu of a $200,000 bond.
