39-Year-Old Pedestrian Fatally Struck on South Olive Street in Downtown LA

LOS ANGELES, CA (November 22, 2022)  – Friday night, Joseph Hansen Madarang was arrested after a fatal pedestrian crash on 9th Street.

The incident happened around 11:40 p.m., at the intersection near Olive Street. 

According to the LAPD, a westbound Lexus IS200t on an eastbound one-way street on 9th Street struck at least two men crossing inside a marked crosswalk. 

The impact catapulted both pedestrians into the air, landing on the street. However, the Lexus driver continued westbound and collided head-on with another vehicle and a tractor-trailer. 

One of the victims, only described as a 36-year-old man, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. 

Meanwhile, authorities arrested the Lexus driver, Madarang, in Los Angeles, for DUI. Madarang is being held in a place of $130,000 bail at Metropolitan Detention Center. 

At this time, an active investigation is currently ongoing.
