50-Year-Old Man Killed in Multi-Vehicle Collision near Solimar Beach

VENTURA, CA (June 21, 2023) – Monday morning, a multi-vehicle crash along Highway 101 claimed the life of Jose Zarate. The incident happened at around 9:30 a.m. on northbound 101 Freeway, south of San Miguelito near Solimar Beach. Upon arrival, the CHP learned that a 2012 Ford F-550 rear-ended a 2002 Toyota Tacoma causing a chain reaction. Police said the collision also involved a Tesla, a Honda HR-V, and a Honda Accord. As a result, one of the vehicles caught on fire. However, officials were unsure as to which vehicle was consumed by flames. Following the crash, authorities pronounced the driver of the Tacoma, 50-year-old Jose A. Zarate, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, medics rushed two other people to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
