Hawthorne Man Killed in Big-Rig Collision near Vermont Avenue

WEST ATHENS, CA (May 31, 2022) – 51-year-old Jose Rodriguez was killed Thursday morning, in a semi-truck accident on 105 Freeway.

Officers responded to the scene around 2:14 a.m., on the westbound lanes of the freeway near Vermont Avenue.

As per reports, the driver of a pickup-truck collided with a semi-truck. However, the events leading up remain unclear.

Responding officers declared one person dead at the scene. Officials later identified the deceased victim as 51-year-old Hawthorne resident, Jose Rodriguez.

Moreover, authorities closed the area for several hours to give way for clearing and preliminary operations.

At this time, it is unknown whether speed, drugs, or alcohol played a role in the crash. However, an active investigation is underway.
