Merced Man Fatally Struck in DUI Accident on Mountain View Road

KEYES, CA (June 25, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of Jose M. Reyes Morales on Saturday.

The incident occurred around 10:10 p.m, on the intersection of East Keyes and Mountain View Road. Dispatchers arrived to the area shortly after.

Furthermore, investigators stated that a 2009 Toyota Camry stopped on southbound Mountain View at the stop sign.

Afterwards, the Camry pulled into the path of a westbound 1998 Toyota 4Runner on Keyes Road. As a result, the 4Runner struck the driver’s side of the Camry, causing the driver to become stuck inside.

Eventually, responders extracted the driver and transported him to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. The Camry driver was later identified as Modesto resident Jose Morales.

Meanwhile, the paramedics also transported the 4runner driver, identified as Favio Valencia Jr. to the same hospital for minor injuries.

The California Highway Patrol believes that intoxication contributed as a factor in the two-vehicle crash.

No words can mend the broken hearts and sorrow felt during this delicate moment. Our deepest condolences and sympathies are with the family and friends of Jose Morales.
