Three Others Injured in Train-Vehicle Collision near 10 Freeway

LOS ANGELES, CA (February 23, 2023) – Monday night, Jose Maradiaga Hernandez and Marvin Padilla were killed after a train crash near 24th Street.

The incident happened at around 6:15 p.m., near 1629 East 24th Street several blocks south of the 10 Freeway.

According to reports, a Metro Blue Line train struck a vehicle, trapping five passengers inside the car.

Emergency crews arrived at the site of the collision shortly after and extricated the vehicle’s occupants. Then, officials pronounced 40-year-old Jose Maradiaga Hernandez and 46-year-old Marvin Padilla, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, medics transported three others to a local hospital for treatment.

The fire department estimated at least 125 passengers were inside the train at the time of the crash. No injuries were reported from the occupants of the train.
