43-Year-Old Man Dies in Hit-and-Run Crash near Palm Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (October 3, 2022) – Tuesday night, Raina Lopez was injured and Jose Manuel Sanchez Ontiveros died in a crash on Highway 99.

The incident took place on the northbound lanes of the highway just south of Palm Street on September 27th.

According to police, Sanchez was driving a white GMC Sierra in the No. 3 lane before making an unsafe lane change into the No.2 lane. As a result, Sanchez slammed into another vehicle.

The GMC then struck the center median wall before overturning onto the northbound lanes of the highway. Paramedics arrived and transported 43-year-old Ontiveros, of Wasco to Kern Medical, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

In addition, medics transported Lopez to Kern Medical for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the other involved vehicle fled the scene northbound on Highway 99. At this time, the suspect remains at large.
