Selma Man Killed in Two-Vehicle Accident on North Avenue

FRESNO, CA (May 26, 2022) – 52-year-old Jose Caratachea-Valencia lost his life Monday morning, in a semi-truck accident on Elm Avenue.

The accident occurred around 3:00 a.m., along Elm and North Avenue. Emergency crews responded to the scene shortly after.

According to reports, a big-rig driver was pulling into a driveway when a 2010 Mercury, driven by Jose, collided with the trailer’s side. Investigators say Caratachea-Valencia drove about 100 mph and could not avoid the truck in time.

Emergency responders had to use the Jaws of Life to free Caratachea-Valencia after his vehicle became wedged underneath the truck. Due to the impact of the collision, officials declared Caratachea-Valencia dead at the scene.

At this time, authorities suspected DUI was the cause and will perform toxicology tests to confirm. Furthermore, Fresno police will release additional information once they become available.
