Elderly Man Ejected and Killed in Deadly Accident near Wilson Road in Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 30, 2021) – Saturday night, 78-year-old Jose Alvarado of Arvin, was killed in a multi-car crash on Highway 70.

The incident occurred around 8:12 p.m., near Wilson Road. For reasons not yet known, Alvarado tried to make a left turn when a northbound 2007 Peterbilt semi-truck slammed into his Chevrolet S-10.

Due to the impact of the crash, Alvarado was ejected from the Chevy. Meanwhile, the semi-truck veered into southbound traffic, where it eventually struck a 2003 Chevrolet Suburban.

Shortly after, paramedics arrived and transported a 5-year-old girl, as well as another occupant to Kern Medical Center with critical injuries. Alvarado was pronounced dead on scene.

As for the drivers of the Suburban and semi-truck, both sustained moderate injuries. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity.

The surrounding area on Highway 70 was closed during cleanup and preliminary duties. But, the roadway has since reopened to traffic.

Once available, more information will be released to the public.
