1 Killed in Fatal Multi-Vehicle Collision near Root Avenue

WASCO, CA (February 8, 2022) – Wednesday morning, Jorgelina Garcia, Loza de Lopez, and Amos Brown were involved in a crash on Highway 46 that left one dead.

According to California Highway Patrol, the collision involving three vehicles occurred around 6:15 a.m., near Root Avenue.

Furthermore, police said an eastbound Lexus was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver attempted to turn into the westbound lane. There, the vehicle collided head-on with a semi-truck carrying hay.

The impact pushed the semi-truck into a Honda SUV and a Toyota pick-up truck.

Meanwhile, the Lexus caught fire. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, the Lexus driver died at the scene. Although, authorities withheld their identity.

Investigators say Garcia was driving the Honda, and Lopez was driving the Toyota.  Moreover, Brown, the semi-truck driver did not receive any injuries.

It is still unknown whether alcohol and drugs were a factor in this crash, or if the Lexus driver died because of the collision or the subsequent fire.

Authorities closed Highway 46 in both directions for several hours for investigation and cleanup duties.
