20-Year-Old Driver Fatally Injured in Collision near Union Valley Parkway

ORCUTT, CA (March 10, 2022) – Friday night, Jorge Valera-Rodriguez was pronounced dead after a wrong-way crash on Highway 135.

According to California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m., on March 4. Dispatchers responded to the scene near Union Valley Parkway.

Per reports, Rodriguez was driving north in the southbound lanes of the highway. Eventually, he collided head-on with an oncoming southbound vehicle.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, responders pronounced 18-year-old Rodriguez dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, paramedics transported his passenger, a 21-year-old male, and the other driver, identified as a 31-year-old Lompoc man, to a local hospital. Although, their identities are being withheld as of this time.

California Highway Patrol officers said all three victims had their seatbelts on during the crash. Following preliminary investigations, authorities suspect that Valera-Rodriguez may have been impaired.

At this time, the collision remains under investigation.
