Steve LaJulio Florez, a 36th Street gang member in his 20s, allegedly shot 46-year-old Jorge Guerrero to death last night around 9:15 p.m., according to Lieutenant Mike Menza of LAPD's Newton Division. Two unidentified women in their early 20s were also allegedly shot by Florez, but survived and were transported to a local hospital. One woman was listed in critical condition. Guerrero was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting occurred in the 3700 block of Mettler Street in South Los Angeles.
The shooting followed a verbal dispute between Florez and Guerrero. Florez reportedly fled the scene on a bicycle and was shortly picked up by a patrolling officer and taken into custody, said Lt. Menza. Authorities believe the shooting was gang-related.
