Suspect Arrested after High-Speed Pursuit Collision near Sand Canyon Road
NEWHALL, CA (June 6, 2022) – Police arrested 18-year-old Jonathan Perez early Wednesday morning, after a pursuit crash on 14 Freeway.
The incident occurred around 2:00 a.m., near Sand Canyon Road. Dispatchers responded to the scene shortly after.
Investigators said a Dodge Charger and a Jeep SUV were both traveling over 100 mph as CHP officers accelerated and attempted to stop both vehicles. However, both drivers failed to yield and initiated pursuit continuing northbound on 14 Freeway.
Eventually, both suspects exited Soledad Canyon Road. There, the Jeep failed to negotiate the off ramp and crashed into the guardrail. Meanwhile, the Dodge driver kept fleeing.
Officers stopped and rendered aid to the Jeep driver before taking him into custody. Other CHP officers found the Dodge Charger abandoned several moments after.
The Jeep driver, Perez, was transported to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station with bail set at $75,000 At this time, Newhall Officials are still working to identify the second suspect.
