Police Pursuit Ends in Fatal Crash on International Boulevard

OAKLAND, CA (October 19, 2022) – Monday morning, Jonathan Hernandez was arrested after a fatal hit-and-run on San Leandro Street. 

Around 7:00 a.m., police spotted the suspect vehicle that was wanted for threatening another driver with a gun and fleeing the scene of a previous incident.

As a result, officers attempted to perform a traffic stop when the suspect continued driving and fled the area. Amidst the chase, the suspect slammed into a pickup-truck on the 6900 block of San Leandro Street.

Upon impact, the 44-year-old male pickup-truck driver suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, his name remains undisclosed pending notification of next of kin.

In the end, officers managed to arrest 23-year-old Jonathan Hernandez and book him into Santa Rita Jail. Hernandez was charged with suspicion of vehicular manslaughter along with other charges.
