Pedestrian Fatally Struck in Fiery Collision near Placentia Avenue

COSTA MESA, CA (January 12, 2022) – Police arrested Jon Weir Wednesday night, after a fatal DUI crash on Victoria Street.

According to the Costa Mesa Police Department, the incident occurred around 11:25 p.m., near Victoria Street and Placentia Avenue.

Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a vehicle rolled over and engulfed in flames.

According to witnesses, 65-year-old Weir was driving on the road when he struck a man who was on the sidewalk waiting to cross the intersection. Police later found out that Weir had been driving under the influence of drugs.

The severely injured pedestrian died at the scene. Although, authorities have not yet released their name or place of residency.

Medics later transported Weir to a local hospital for treatment non-life-threatening injuries. He was later arrested Wednesday.

Additionally, the eastbound lane of Victoria Street had been closed for an extended period of time following the crash.
