From the Department of Verisimilitude, or maybe the Ministry of Silly Hats, comes news from Variety that Jon Favreau (Cowboys & Aliens, Iron Man, Swingers) is starting his own food truck. Or at least he'll play a guy starting his own food truck, which is close enough, right? Favreau will write, direct and star in the upcoming movie Chef, in which he'll portray a chef who loses his restaurant job and starts a food truck to “reclaim his artistic promise and reclaiming [sic] his estranged family.” Because that happens all the time in real life.

The movie has recently somehow incorporated Robert Downey Jr., perhaps because that Iron Man suit can magically turn used vegetable oil into, I don't know, maybe nonalcoholic beer. It will also star Sofia Vergara, John Leguizamo and Bobby Cannavale. If you saw the glorious movie The Station Agent, this last one will come as no surprise. Hopefully Cannavale will reprise his role as a food-truck vendor, since he'll steal the movie anyway.

Production on the “indie ensemble comedy” is set to start in early July here in Los Angeles. For which we are all grateful, since it would be stupid to have Toronto fill in for the place where food trucks were kind of invented, wouldn't it. You want real palm trees. You want real tacos.

So it seems as if we have more things to do this summer while eating curbside around town, like maybe checking to see if Favreau is helming the al pastor station at that new truck on your corner. Or at least filming it.
