That Malibu car surfer we told you about was no ordinary Spicoli. Turns out the teenager photographed atop the white BMW SUV cruising down Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu Wednesday morning was none other than Johnny Strange, the mountain climber known for being the youngest person to scale the highest peaks on all seven continents, sheriff's officials told LA Weekly.

Someone in a school bus photographed him as he climbed out of the moving car's window, crouched atop its roof, and stretched his arms out, surf-style. The 18-year-old is not in very deep hot water, said sheriff's Sgt. Philip Brooks.

Strange will likely only face a “possible infraction for riding outside the vehicle,” Brooks told the Weekly.

The driver of the car, however, is a different story: She's 17, and her driver's permit does not allow her to have passengers, the sergeant said. She faces possible citations for reckless driving and violating the terms of her permit, Brooks said.

Authorities tracked down the pair at Malibu High School. “I guess I was being stupid,'' Strange told deputies as they confronted him in a hallway, according an account Brooks gave to City News Service.
