Male Bicyclist Pronounced Dead after Fatal Accident near 26th Avenue

CLEARLAKE, CA (January 23, 2023) – Tuesday evening, police arrested Johnny Leon-Rojas after a fatal bicycle collision along Boyles Avenue. Officers responded to the scene around 5:45 p.m., near 26th Avenue according to initial reports. Upon arrival, units discovered a Toyota Tundra and a bicyclist were in the wreckage after colliding for reasons currently unknown. The unidentified male bicyclist, believed to be in his 40s, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity remains undisclosed, pending notification from the next of kin. Meanwhile, authorities arrested and booked 18-year-old Johnny Leon-Rojas of Clearlake into Lake County Jail for vehicular manslaughter. Moreover, a large portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties but has since been reopened.
