Dennis RomeroIt didn't take long for nutosphere to pontificate about the possible motives of alleged Santa Monica rampage shooter John Zawahri.
His family is from the Middle East, therefore he must have been an extremist — a domestic terrorist with roots in a Western-hating world. Not so:
Increasing evidence points to a Zawahri as the child of a bitter divorce with threats of violence and much fear in the home where he allegedly killed his father and brother on his way to what cops say was a five-victim killing spree Friday.
The Los Angeles Times overnight delved deeper into the story of a 2006 incident in which a high-school-aged Zawarhi's home was searched and he was sent to receive a mental evaluation.
A former Santa Monica police officer, Cristina Coria, recalled the search for television stations over the weekend and said weapons and bomb making materials were sought at the Yorkshire Avenue home that later burned as part of the rampage.
In any case, Zawahri's childhood was reportedly filled with rage between mother and father as they divorced, and that seems to be the focus of the investigation into his motives.

Zawahri and his mother apparently moved to the Centinela Avenue apartment that was the focus of a police response Friday afternoon. Both parents are said to be from Lebanon.
FBI spokeswoman Laura Eimiller told the Weekly:
There's no indication he was motivated by an extremist ideology.
Will that shut the nuts up? Probably not.
