Best known for his work as the front man for NYC downtown jazz renegades the Lounge Lizards, and as a soundtrack composer (especially for Stranger Than Paradise), Lurie's cut a very skinny but influential swatch across American culture.

In addition to his music, he also wrote, produced, directed and starred in the remarkable IFC series Fishing With John, in which he traveled to faraway lands with famous men and went fishing with them.

Lurie's in town signing his new art book, A Fine Example of Art, at Book Soup on the Sunset Strip. Starts at 7 p.m., goes until 9.
