68-Year-Old Bicyclist Killed in Fatal Crash on Pacific Coast Highway

HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (June 1, 2021) – 68-year-old John Crouch lost his life Thursday afternoon, after a bicycle crash on Pacific Coast Highway.

The tragic incident happened around 1:35 p.m., on Pacific Coast Highway at 1st Street. Emergency crews arrived to the area shortly after.

Crouch was riding his bicycle across Pacific Coast Highway at 1st Avenue when a silver Toyota Yaris traveling westbound struck him for unknown reasons, according to authorities.

When first responders arrived on the scene, Crouch was found unresponsive. They took him to a nearby hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries.

The Toyota driver, identified only as a 23-year-old Bloomington man, pulled over and cooperated with police.

Authorities say the man was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident. The California Highway Patrol eventually arrested him on suspicion of DUI.

At this time, an active investigation to determine further details remains ongoing. Once available, more information will be released.
