One Dead after Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Collision near Capp Street

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (February 15, 2023) – Early Sunday morning, Joel Fakava was arrested following a fatal hit-and-run crash on 16th Street. Police responded to the scene around 2:00 a.m., near the intersection of 16th and Capp Street on January 22nd. Per reports, Fakava initially struck a male and female pedestrian and immediately fled the scene. Afterward, he also struck a vehicle near 16th and Portero Street. Medics later pronounced one victim dead after they were transferred to a local hospital. Although, authorities have not yet released their identity. Following preliminary duties, police arrested Fakava for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and five counts of hit-and-run as well as other related charges. Furthermore, a large portion of the roadway was temporarily shut down to allow for cleanup but has since been opened. Once available, further details will be provided by San Francisco authorities.
