Pedestrian Accident near Meadows Field Airport Leaves Woman Dead

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 6, 2021) – Early Saturday morning, 32-year-old Joanne Stayman was killed in a pedestrian crash on Airport Drive.

Officers responded to the incident around 2:30 a.m., at Airport Drive and Castaic Avenue near Meadows Field Airport.

Investigators say a Volkswagen struck a woman while she was crossing Castaic Avenue and Airport Drive. As a result, the woman suffered severe head injuries and died at the scene.

Meanwhile, the driver of the Volkswagen remained at the scene and cooperated with the authorities.

Later, the Kern County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victim as 32-year-old Joanne Margaret Stayman, of Bakersfield.

In addition, officers suspected that Stayman was intoxicated at the time of the crash. However, more information will be provided once available.
