She don't give a damn 'bout her bad reputation, which is why Joan Jett is the official honoree at the Sunset Strip Music Festival this year, West Coast Sound can exclusively announce. The fest takes place August 1-3 and Linkin Park, the headliner, is the only other announced performer so far.

Past honorees include Slash, Motley Crue, and The Doors, but Jett is the first woman to be recognized, and will be honored at a ceremony to kick things off on August 1 at the House of Blues. Then, she'll perform with the Blackhearts!

Unfortunately, tickets to that ceremony are not easy to get, but never fear: West Hollywood has also declared August 1 Joan Jett Day, so you can honor her simply by, I don't know, getting a felafel somewhere there.

At the ceremony, Jett will receive the Elmer Valentine Award, named for the man who, along with Lou Adler and Mario Maglieri, founded The Roxy, the Rainbow, and the Whisky A Go-Go.

“We are delighted to celebrate Joan Jett who has so much influenced the history of the legendary boulevard,” said the festival's managing director Karmen Beck in the announcement press release, which you can read in its entirety below.

Our thoughts? Great choice! And not just because she once gave a guy a popsicle that was 10% lemonade and 90% pee. Even though the Sunset Strip Music Festival, now in its sixth year, has traditionally been a celebration of aging bad boys, it's great to get some feminine energy in there, particularly someone whose songs have held up so well and define capital letters Rock 'N Roll to many.

So put another dime in the jukebox baby! (But please, laws today are more strict, so make sure the guy you're seducing is older than 17.)

Multi-platinum selling, iconic rock goddess JOAN JETT has been selected as the festival honoree at this year's SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL (SSMF), taking place in Los Angeles August 1-3. Since co-founding the pioneering all-girl punk quintet The Runaways at age 15, JETT has continued to be an originator, innovator, visionary–and a pivotal figure in the history of The Sunset Strip. As with previous SSMF honorees, JETT will be celebrated at an exclusive VIP event Thursday, August 1 at the House of Blues Sunset, kicking off the three-day music festival. There she will be presented with the coveted “Elmer Valentine Award” and, immediately following the tribute ceremony, lucky attendees will enjoy a full live performance by JOAN JETT & the Blackhearts. Tickets for the event are extremely limited; see info below. In addition to the VIP reception, the City of West Hollywood will honor JETT by officially proclaiming Thursday, August 1 “Joan Jett Day.”

This marks the sixth installment of the award ceremony and the SUNSET STRIP MUSIC FESTIVAL, which celebrates the music and icons that have made an impact on the legacy of The Strip. The event debuted in 2008 with the recognition of Lou Adler, Mario Maglieri and Elmer Valentine, founders of cornerstone Sunset Strip venues The Roxy Theatre, Rainbow Bar & Grill and Whisky A Go-Go. In 2009, Ozzy Osbourne received the “Elmer Valentine Award,” which was thusly named after the passing of original honoree Valentine. The 2010 award went to Slash, in 2011 Mötley Crüe was recognized, and in 2012 The Doors were celebrated.

“It is my honor and pleasure to take part in inducting the first female music superstar, Joan Jett, to the exclusive group of Sunset Strip icons to receive the coveted 'Elmer Valentine Award,'” says SSMF Festival Managing Director Karmen Beck. “We are delighted to celebrate Joan Jett who has so much influenced the history of the legendary boulevard.”

As the leader of the hard-rocking Blackhearts, JETT has had eight platinum and gold albums and nine Top 40 singles, including the classics “Bad Reputation,” “I Love Rock 'N' Roll,” “I Hate Myself For Loving You,” and “Crimson and Clover.” She rose to fame in the late '70s, performing on The Sunset Strip as part of the all-girl band The Runaways. JETT was recently able to see her story told in The Runaways, a film based on (lead singer of The Runaways) Cherie Currie's book Neon Angel and starring Kristen Stewart as Jett, and Dakota Fanning as Currie. JETT was close to the project, serving as an Executive Producer.

Additionally, JETT sits at the head of her own independent label, Blackheart Records, produces various music projects for others, and has acted in movies and television, including 1987's Light Of Day, and in the Tony-nominated Broadway musical The Rocky Horror Show. She has appeared on such acclaimed television shows as “Oprah” (the last season) and “Law and Order.”

The sixth annual three-day music festival officially gets underway with the 2013 honoree award presentation and tribute event on Thursday at the House of Blues Sunset, followed up with special high-profile shows in the world famous music venues on The Sunset Strip Thursday and Friday nights, and culminates on Saturday, August 3 with a 3-11 PM street festival.

As in years past for the Saturday event, Sunset Boulevard will be closed to traffic between Doheny Drive and San Vicente Boulevard and transformed into a premier concert destination with two outdoor stages, beer gardens, an artist autograph tent, an outdoor VIP rooftop lounge, silent disco, VIP Lounge at On The Rox, food trucks and interactive experiences.

Tickets for the SSMF 2013 street festival are on sale now via the official ticketing provider, Eventbrite, at https://sunsetstrip.eventbrite.com. Ticket options include general admission August 3 street festival ticket for $79 and a VIP option for $145, which includes access to the rooftop VIP area with views of the West stage, VIP areas in the beer garden and venues, access to VIP lounge On The Rox, a separate entrance and additional perks. A limited number of three-day VIP passes are available for $250 via https://sunsetstrip.eventbrite.com. The three-day VIP pass allows VIP access to all three nights of music in the venues, the Saturday street festival and the exclusive tribute event celebrating Joan Jett on August 1. As previously announced, a significant portion of this year's ticket sales will benefit Music For Relief, a nonprofit organization to support disaster relief, provide aid to survivors of natural disasters and support the prevention of such disasters via environmental programs.

Previous SSMF performers have included Ozzy Osbourne, Mötley Crüe, The Smashing Pumpkins, The Offspring, Marilyn Manson, Steve Aoki, Slash featuring Fergie, Public Enemy, Bad Religion, Common, Bush, LMFAO, Kid Cudi, Neon Trees, Matt & Kim, Cobra Starship, Shiny Toy Guns, The Head Cat, Andy Grammer, Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger of The Doors, She Wants Revenge, Awolnation and Imagine Dragons, among others. Highlights from the past five years, including the SSMF 2012 street festival–which drew 15,000 music fans from Southern California and beyond–can be seen here: https://bit.ly/SSMFvideo13.
