Dancer Jill Yip, 29, passed away unexpectedly on July 23 following a short period of illness. Raised in Alhambra
after fleeing Vietnam with her family, Yip was a business and economics major at Cal State L.A. when choreographer Hae Kyung Lee urged her to pursue dance. Yip, who went on to become a dance instructor at Cal State, danced with Lee for seven years. She also explored her Chinese heritage in bold and humorous solo work at Highways Performance Space. An emerging force on the local dance scene, Yip will be remembered as a gifted artist whose electrifying presence and generous spirit lit up the stage.
