Erick Gonzalez Torres Arrested Following Solo-Vehicle Crash near Jameson Avenue Kills 16-Year-Old

RIVERDALE, CA (February 14, 2023) – Sunday morning, a suspected DUI crash on Elkhorn Avenue claimed the life of Jesus Heriberto Rodriquez.

The incident happened on February 12th, at around 5:30 a.m., near Elkhorn Avenue and Jameson Avenue.

According to investigations, Erick Gonzalez Torres was driving a Toyota Tacoma when he lost control of the vehicle and it went off the road. The speed and momentum of the truck caused it to overturn several times.

As a result, Rodriquez, who was one of the passengers in the truck, was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries. Investigators reported that he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Emergency crews to the crash attempted life-saving efforts but were unsuccessful. Medics pronounced 16-year-old Jesus Heriberto Rodriquez, of Mexico, dead at the scene.

Meanwhile, the two other passengers in the truck– a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old – sustained minor injuries. They were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

Following the collision, police arrested 25-year-old Erick Gonzalez Torres, of Bakersfield, on charges of vehicular manslaughter and felony DUI.
