37-Year-Old Male Pedestrian Pronounced Dead after Hit-and-Run Collision near South M Street

BAKERSFIELD, CA (March 29, 2023) – Thursday evening, Jesus Alberto Nelson died in a pedestrian hit-and-run on South Chester Avenue.

First responders arrived to the scene around 7:48 p.m., near Southgate Drive on March 23rd.

Upon arrival, crews located a man lying on the southbound lanes of South Chester Avenue. Per reports, the driver of a gray Mazda struck him as he was attempting to cross the southbound lanes.

The driver then failed to stop and immediately fled the scene. Medics arrived and pronounced 37-year-old Nelson of Bakersfield, dead due to the extent of injuries sustained.

Following preliminary duties, California Highway Patrol officers were able to obtain physical evidence from the dark gray vehicle. However, an active investigation is still currently underway.
