Escondido Bicycle-Auto Collision Resulted in One Fatality

ESCONDIDO, CA (August 21, 2021) – Authorities are investigating a fatal bicycle accident that claimed the life of Jerry Torres, 53, last Saturday on SR-78.

The fatal incident occurred around 9 p.m. on the eastbound State Route 78 near Centre City Parkway.

According to the CHP, a white Volvo sedan struck the bicyclist after attempting to cross from the center divider to the right shoulder.

Tragically, the bicyclist died at the scene and the coroner’s office identified his later as 53-year-old Jerry Torres.

Meanwhile, the 19-year-old Volvo driver sustained minor injuries from the collision.

The CHP Officials ruled out intoxication as a factor that contributed to the crash.

Friends and family of Jerry Torres put up a GoFundMe page to help with the victim’s funeral expenses.

Escondido authorities are investigating the accident.
