Jerry Buss is in the hospital with cancer, with some reports indicating that he's gravely ill and that family, friends and members of his Lakers basketball organization such as Kobe Bryant have come to his side.

However, Buss was hospitalized in summer and he bounced back despite some media speculation that he was not as healthy as he turned out to be.

His hospitalization at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center near Beverly Hills …

… appears to have been first reported by RadarOnline today, which quotes one source saying:

Jerry isn't doing well and it's quite sad, but he's surrounded by loved ones. The cancer is just too much and it looks like this is the end for him.

The Orange County Register reported that it has known about Buss' cancer but kept a lid on it “out of respect for the Buss family's wishes.”

Buss is majority owner of the Lakers, which he bought in 1979; Anschutz Entertainment Group, the owner of Staples Center and LA Live, owns less than 30 percent of the team.

Buss' son Jim runs basketball operations while Jeanie, reportedly engaged to former Lakers coach Phil Jackson, runs the Lakers' business affairs.
