40-Year-Old Man in Wheelchair Fatally Struck in Pedestrian Collision near Palm Lane

PHOENIX, AZ (December 12, 2022) – Saturday night, Jeremy Ortiz was fatally struck in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on 63rd Avenue.

Police responded to the scene around 6:30 p.m., near Palm Lane.

According to reports, two separate vehicles struck Ortiz in the area. Upon impact, both drivers fled the scene without contacting authorities or rendering aid to the severely injured victim.

Per initial reports, police believed that Ortiz was crossing mid-block on 63rd Avenue near Palm Lane when he was struck. Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 40-year-old Ortiz dead at the scene.

At this time, the suspects remain at large. Emergency crews shut down a large portion of the roadway to allow for cleanup and preliminary duties. Once available, further details will be provided.
