78-Year-Old Woman Killed in Long Beach Fatal Pedestrian Accident

LONG BEACH, CA (July 13, 2021) – Thursday evening, 78-year-old Jere Whitney lost her life in a pedestrian hit-and-run crash on 4th Street.

The accident occurred just after 10:00 p.m., on 4th Street and Ximeno Avenue. Dispatchers arrived shortly after.

According to reports, Whitney was walking in a crosswalk when she was struck by a red Subaru Outback or Crosstrek making a left turn.

Officers located Whitney with serious injuries to her upper torso. Medics then rushed her to a nearby hospital, where she later died.

Meanwhile, the driver fled the scene westbound on Fourth Street and is still at large.
