Comedian Jenny Slate is awkward. But huggably awkward. She over-shares on social media and she’ll happily use caps lock when it ISN’T REALLY NEEDED. That adorable discomfort plays out nicely as the voice of web sensation Marcel the Shell, a character whose smokey, childish husk has been heard by tens of millions of YouTube viewers. Last summer Slate made the leap to the big screen with the abortion comedy Obvious Child, a comedy L.A. Weekly described as “perfect for those who want more honesty in fiction.” This special screening will be followed by a question-and-answer session from Slate. Maybe have her sign some shells?
