10-Year-Old Fatally Struck by Trailer near 23rd Avenue

PHOENIX, AZ (February 13, 2023) – Tuesday morning, a pedestrian crash near Thunderbird Road claimed the life of 10-year-old Jayveon Grant.

The incident happened on February 7th, at around 8:00 a.m., near the intersection of 23rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road.

According to reports, a pickup truck was pulling a trailer along 23rd Avenue. The truck was stopped at a red light, preparing to make a right turn, when Grant and his adult companion walked between the truck and the trailer. The truck started to move and the adult got out of the way in time, but Grant did not. As a result, the trailer struck Grant, leaving him with serious injuries.

First responders to the site of the collision transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. However, while at the hospital, medics pronounced 10-year-old Jayveon Grant dead, due to the extent of his condition.

Meanwhile, the truck driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Neither the driver nor the other pedestrian was injured in the incident.
