38-Year-Old Killed in Car Accident on South Wilmington Avenue in Watts

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 21, 2022) – Early Saturday morning, Jaycie Martinez died in a single-vehicle crash on Wilmington Avenue.

Crews responded to the scene at 9927 South Wilmington Avenue, around 4:30 a.m. For reasons under investigation, the driver of a Mercedes was speeding the wrong way prior to the incident.

The Mercedes then jumped the curb onto Century Boulevard, and flew into a duplex where a couple was inside.

Due to the impact of the collision, medics pronounced 38-year-old Martinez, who was a passenger, dead at the scene. Meanwhile, responders rushed the driver to a nearby hospital in a critical condition.

Police suspect the driver was under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

More information will be updated as it becomes available to the public, an active investigation is currently underway.
