Fleeing Hit-And-Run Driver on Bakersfield, Arrested

BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 1, 2021) – Police arrested Jay Hanby on Thursday, following a vehicle pursuit resulting in an injury hit-and-run.

According to Bakersfield authorities, officers attempted to pull over a black BMW in the area of Olive and Airport Drive around 12:10 A.M.

Officers spotted several bullet holes in the vehicle, linking it to the shooting in Ming Avenue on May 4. Shortly after, the driver quickly tried to flee, which led to a high speed pursuit of more than 100 mph.

Eventually, the officers suspended the chase because of the suspect’s erratic and unsafe driving behavior.

The BMW then struck a vehicle at South H Street and Plans Road as it continued to drive in an unsafe manner.

Medical personnel arrived and transported the occupant of the other vehicle to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, the Bakersfield Police Department arrested 35-year-old Jay Hanby after attempting to flee on foot.

Police later booked Jay Hanby into Kern County Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run, evading arrest and violating the terms of his parole.
