2 Killed in Wrong-Way Accident near Victoria Avenue

VENTURA, CA (March 10, 2022) – Early Sunday morning, Javier Lopez and Shae Lopez died in a wrong-way crash on Highway 101.

According to California Highway Patrol, the incident happened shortly before 2:00 a.m., on March 6. Crews responded to the scene near Victoria Avenue.

For reasons unknown, 23-year-old Lopez was driving a northbound Honda Civic on the southbound side of the highway. As a result, the Honda collided with an Acura RSX, driven by 33-year-old Shae Lopez of Oxnard, near Victoria Avenue.

Both drivers died at the scene, while an unidentified 33-year-old male passenger from the Acura was sent to Ventura County Medical Center with major injuries.

Meanwhile, authorities closed the southbound lanes between Telephone Road and Victoria Avenue for about six hours for cleanup and preliminary duties.

The surrounding lanes later reopened at about 8:00 a.m.
