Brothers Pronounced Dead after Wrong Way Collision near Moapa

LAS VEGAS, NV (August 6, 2021) – Monday night, Javarius Barfield, and Chase Fernandez, were killed in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 15.

According to the NHP, the wrong-way driver was driving south in the northbound lanes of I-15. However, further events leading up to the collision remain unclear.

The Clark County coroner’s office identified the deceased victims as 8-year-old Chase Fernandez, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, as well as 19-year-old Javarius Barfield.

Investigators say both victims died of blunt force trauma. Authorities did not reveal information about the wrong-way driver’s identity.

Police did not release any additional information at this time. However, officers believe that intoxication played a factor.

Driving under the influence is one of the most dangerous things you can do as a driver. If you find yourself unable to safely drive, you can always contact a Lyft or Uber instead.

Our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Javarius Barfield and Chase Fernandez.
