In this week’s Riding the Bench podcast, presented by L.A. Weekly, your hosts Evan Lancaster and Isai “Izzy” Rocha discuss all the reports coming from inside the NBA bubble, breaking down JaVale’s McGee’s vlogs from the inside, and even the Lakers’ Dwight Howard getting in trouble for not wearing a face covering.

The hosts also discuss the Dodgers’ first preseason games, California’s decision to shut down all high school sports and reports of 48 So-Fi stadium construction workers testing positive for COVID-19.

Lakers starting center JaVale McGee started a daily vlog, giving fans an inside perspective of the secluded Disney World campus where the NBA will conclude its season.

The campus, or “bubble” houses 22 teams, provides regular COVID-19 testing and is keeping players from contact with the outside world.

While the season does not resume until July 30, players have arrived to get accustomed to the campus, get proper testing and quarantine if necessary.

In McGee’s Vlog, he actually shows the uncomfortable testing process the players had to go through. McGee also gives fans a look at the hotel food situation, which isn’t exactly gourmet, but still looks better than LeBron James’s taco Tuesdays.

It has been reported that no positive tests came out of the players’ first round of COVID-19 testing, which is a positive sign moving forward for the league. They have gone to great lengths to finish the NBA season by renting out an entire Disney World resort, housing more than 300 players, coaches and staff, and making sure the prospects of COVID-19 stay away away from their “bubble.”
