Cops today said 27-year-old Jason Paul Ramirez robbed his own grandfather more than once and then holed up in the North Hills Budget Inn Motel when officers came to get him.

It all started about 7:45 a.m. today in the 9100 block of Sepulveda Boulevard, LAPD Officer Richard French told the Weekly:

The suspect wouldn't come out of his room, police say, so a SWAT team was forced to use its powers of persuasion, namely …

… tear gas, French said.

He came out peacefully about 11:30 a.m., he said.

LAPD Mission Division Capt. Todd Chamberlain told us Ramirez's grandfather claimed that he had beat him up, robbed him and took money from him over a two-month period.

About a week ago the grandson came back to his grandfather's place, and the grandfather ended up putting him up at the hotel, he said.

Chamberlain said the suspect has a drug problem and that “he was getting progressively more and more violent.”

Ramirez was booked on suspicion of robbery, cops said.
