In the mid-20th century, Echo Park was nicknamed “Red Hill,” a nod to the many political radicals living in the neighborhood. Now, the name exists only in memory — and on the bright tangerine wall of an Echo Park restaurant that will open at 6 p.m. tonight.

As we reported Tuesday, Red Hill represents Jason Michaud's latest venture after Silver Lake's Local and Downtown's Chimú, a short-lived Peruvian eatery that Michaud recently replaced with a version of Local.

Expect housemade pasta, pickled vegetables and vegetarian dishes on Red Hill's menu, at least for now. Echo Parkers, this place is especially for you. “I want it to be a neighborhood spot,” Michaud says. “Decently priced, with spectacular food.”
