“I envisioned a law firm where clients could trust that they were not just another case file, but individuals whose concerns and goals truly mattered,” Olen explains.
Commitment to the Pursuit of Justice
Olen worked in the Los Angeles County Public Defender’s Office as a deputy public defender starting in 2014, a position he served in for almost eight years. While there, he represented thousands of adult and juvenile clients during the most difficult time of their lives. Olen gained experience defending people at every stage of criminal prosecution and his cases “spanned a wide spectrum of severity.”
“Whether securing dismissals, suppressing unlawfully obtained evidence, negotiating favorable plea bargains, or achieving not-guilty verdicts at trial, I’ve fought tirelessly to ensure my clients’ rights were protected and their voices heard. Each victory, whether large or small, represents a step toward justice and a reaffirmation of my clients’ trust in me. For me, being a criminal defense lawyer is not just a job; it’s a calling,” Olen says.
Over time, Olen gained insight into how the industry worked and observed other lawyers treating their clients in a way he felt wasn’t suitable. The issues that concerned him were the lack of “genuine connection” between the lawyers and clients, high-pressure tactics, and an emphasis on revenue. Olen wanted to create a law practice that took a different approach, where “professionalism and knowledge were matched by compassion and respect.” It was important to him that every client would have the support they needed throughout the challenging legal process.
Olen’s decision to open his firm enabled him to create a client-centered atmosphere that avoided high-pressure sales tactics. He also endeavored to make his clients feel confident that he was working hard on their behalf to secure the best outcome for their case. The inception of his firm empowered him to practice law in alignment with his values.
