The new year brought dozens of freshly-minted restaurants to the L.A. eating scene. Self-served shaved ice may replace fro-yo as the trendy frozen treat of 2014 as we saw SnowLa Shavery and Chilly Ribbons set up shop, while Zinga dished up its last bowl of frozen yogurt in Culver City.

Meanwhile, historic dining destinations such as Pasadena's Hamburger Hamlet and The Chicken Lady Café closed after decades of doing business, while others, like West L.A.'s Robata-Ya, only lasted a few years before calling it quits this month.  

In West Hollywood, Gracias Madre has officially opened its doors. Think traditional Mexican fare but with the same vegan, seasonal goodness found at its predecessor, Café Gratitude. However, unlike Café Gratitude's raw food philosophy, plenty of dishes are served piping hot, including chiliquiles, enchiladas con mole, and house-made tacos.
