28-Year-Old Woman Pronounced Dead after Auto Collision on Mountain Avenue

CLAREMONT, CA (January 25, 2022) – Late Tuesday night, Janet Hernandez was killed in a solo-vehicle crash on Mount Baldy Road.

The accident happened near the intersection of Mount Baldy Road and Mountain Avenue around 11:30 p.m.

According to reports, a 30-year-old Los Angeles man at the wheel of the 2018 Toyota Camry was driving at an unsafe speed in rainy weather conditions. Officers say the Toyota then veered right before overturning and striking a dirt berm.

Crews transported the driver and a 31-year-old man to Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced 28-year-old Hernandez, of Ontario dead at the scene. She was the right-rear passenger and was not wearing her seat belt.

Police eventually arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI causing injury or death and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. Authorities held the driver at the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station in lieu of $100,000 bail.
