Two-Vehicle Collision near Champlin Slough Left 2 Dead, 1 Injured
TEHAMA COUNTY, CA (June 19, 2023) – Saturday afternoon, a head-on collision along State Route 99 claimed the lives of James Hartley and Celeste Young. Officials responded to the collision around 2:55 p.m. in SR-99, south of Champlin Slough. Upon arrival, the CHP learned that a Ford Ranger entered the opposing lanes and collided head-on with a BMW 428i. Responding units from Cal Fire extinguished the fire that resulted from the crash. Tragically, both drivers from the two vehicles died at the scene. Meanwhile, paramedics transported a BMW passenger to Enloe Medical Hospital for treatment of significant injuries. The California Highway Patrol later identified the deceased drivers as 54-year-old James Hartley and 67-year-old Celeste Young. Both were determined to be Los Molinos residents.
