A black man was fatally shot by LAPD officers just after 5 p.m. on Thursday, October 7, at 2048 East 114th Street in Watts. He has since been identified by the coroner as 18-year-old James Davis.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the officers were patrolling a housing project called Imperial Courts when they encountered Davis in a group of males. When Davis tried to flee, police chased after him, then shot him in the back after he pointed a gun in their direction. He was later pronounced dead at the St. Francis Medical Center.
