CBP Agent Injured in Collision near Border Patrol Checkpoint

TEMECULA, CA (December 23, 2021) –  Jaime Alejandro Garcia was arrested after a crash on Rainbow Valley Boulevard, Monday morning.

California Highway Patrol said the incident happened around 2:30 a.m., after the routine checkpoint duties of the victim.

According to reports, a northbound black Mini Cooper sped through the checkpoint, and struck an agent at approximately 60 miles per hour. The victim was a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent.

The driver of the Mini Cooper, Jaime Alejandro Garcia kept driving until Border Patrol agents pulled him over about a mile away from the checkpoint.

Police later arrested Garcia on suspicion of felony DUI. Additionally, they also arrested his passenger, Karen Devora for allegedly delaying and obstructing officers at the scene.

California Highway Patrols says the Border Patrol agent suffered major injuries. Eventually, paramedics transported him to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar for treatment.

Meanwhile, authorities are yet to disclose the identity of the agent. Additionally, crews shut down all northbound lanes of Interstate 15 for several hours during the investigation.
