8-Year-Old Elementary Student Fatally Struck near Driftwood Drive

SAN JOSE, CA (September 20, 2022) – Friday morning, a pedestrian accident near Castlemont Avenue claimed the life of Jacob Villanueva.

The fatal incident occurred around 8:05 a.m. on Driftwood Drive near Castlemont Elementary.

According to the police, a 2022 black Mercedes Crossover hit 8-year-old Villanueva and his 44-year-old nanny walking in a marked crosswalk.

Unfortunately, 8-year-old Villanueva succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. The nanny, however, sustained moderate injuries and is expected to survive.

Meanwhile, the involved driver, Shiva Moozoun, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigators. It remains unclear whether Moozoun will face charges at this time.

Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be a factor in the collision. At this time, San Jose Officials are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the Castlemont Avenue pedestrian accident. An active investigation is currently ongoing.
