Father and Son Dead after Big-Rig Collision near Black Rock Road

ST. GEORGE, AZ (January 11, 2022) – Wednesday night, 12-year-old Jacob Schott and his father were killed in a crash on Interstate 15.

Firefighters responded to the scene around 10:00 p.m., on the highway just north of Black Rock Road. The crash involved a black Ford Mustang and a semi tractor-trailer.

According to reports, the Mustang driver and his two children were heading south on the interstate. Meanwhile, the big-rig was traveling at about 5-10 miles per hour when it entered the lanes after being parked on the right shoulder of I-15.

As the Mustang driver was speeding on the highway, the two collided eventually trapping the Mustang underneath the semi-truck.

In addition, officers say the semi-truck driver entered the lanes without its trailer lights on.

Fire crews worked for about half an hour opening the top of the Mustang to release the trapped victims.

Due to the extent of injuries sustained, medics pronounced the driver of the Mustang and his 12-year-old son dead at the scene.

Additionally, the boy’s 11-year-old sister, Nayeli Schott riding in the backseat acquired non-life threatening injuries. Paramedics transported her to a local hospital for further treatment.

At this time, an active investigation is still underway. Once available, further details will be provided.
