53-Year-Old Woman Dies in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Thunderbird Road in Phoenix

PHOENIX, AZ (April 15, 2021) – Sunday night, 53-year-old Jackie Peloguin was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Cave Creek Road.

According to CHP, the driver of a white 2006 Acura sedan struck the woman at the intersection of Cave Creek and Thunderbird Road.

Shortly after the impact, the Acura driver fled the scene without rendering aid to the victim.

Paramedics arrived and transported Peloguin to a local hospital for further treatment of life-threatening injuries. However, she later succumbed to her injuries.

Following investigations, 43-year-old Melissa Truax is suspected of having been the driver. She claimed to have struck a shopping cart, not a person, and drove to a friend’s house with a damaged windshield.

Truax was later taken into custody and is being charged with hit-and-run resulting in death.

No further information has been released to the public at this time. However, an active investigation to determine further details is still underway.
